STOP-MOTION
ANIMATION
The summer term began with a brief introduction to
the history of stop-motion animation, discussing
techniques used by the ground-breaking animators,
like Ray Harryhausen (Jason and the Argonauts) and
Wes Anderson (Fantastic Mr Fox) .
As part of our 8Together9 theme, pupils have focused
on road safety and learned to recognise many of our
most popular road signs. The idea was that they
would design roadways and create a series of stopmotion animations to promote safer cycling.
We sourced Lego bicycles (rarer than hens8 teeth, for
the record), but the reality of how the animations
developed was rather different to my expectaions!
Pupils, however have thoroughly enjoyed the project
and learned new skills.
Tasked to plan, storyboard, animate and edit their
Lego figures in small groups, these are extracts of
their work.
